Col. Bud Day escapes the Hanoi Hilton, only to be re-captured. As punishment, his captors break his arm and set it incorrectly in the hopes that Day’s arm will be ruined for flying missions. Day’s roomie John McCain goes out, collects pieces of bamboo to make a splint, resets Day’s broken arm perfectly by literally pulling the bone into place with his bare hands (and foot), and then makes Day a new cast using the bamboo pieces and bandages from his own leg cast. All that and he didn’t even have a man bags full of goodies.
